POST ABOLISHED
Governor-General’s Decision military SECRETARY In th* interests of economy during the prevailing period of financial stringency, his Excellency the GovernorGeneral Lord Bledlsloe has decided to abolish the post of military secretary, which is held at present on his staff by Major R. W. Russell, late of the Indian Army, who will therefore return soon to England. Major Russell arrived in New Zealand only last March, having been in
England for some months after leaving the 9th Gurkhas on the North-West frontier. When the war broke out he was with the British Army in India, but he served for some time in France and was then transferred to Palestine. After the war he spent three years in Japan and was later, until 1926, in the Straits Settlements. Thereafter he was with his regiment on the North-West frontier, and was for a period A.D.C. to the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army at Delhi. Major Russell is a great out-of-doors man. and at some time or other has been interested in almost all forms of sport. Fishing, hunting, shooting, polo and big game hunting have all attracted him.
