PLUNKET BALL
Hawaiian Night at Day’s Bay
A most successful Hawaiian gala night was held at the Day’s Bay Pavilion recently, when some 400 guests were entertained at the annual ball of the Eastbourne Plunket Society. The decorations were quite enchanting. The walls were spaced with tall palms and clumps of bamboo between beautifullymade native tappa cloths; and the ceiling was festooned with scarlet hibiscus and dotted with grape-like clusters of multicoloured balloons. The whole scene made a delightful setting for the gay frocks of the dancers. The music was provided mainly by the wireless dance band, assisted by the Mariana Hawaiian Quartet and a number of local ukulele players, among whom were Messrs. ■ Campbell-Lewis, Morgan, Gower, Ellingford, Wilkinson. The Truby Troup, led by Mr. Royel, sang and played many catchy native melodies which were greatly appreciated. Eight dancers from the St. Albans Girls’ Club gave a delightful song-scena and ballet in native costume. A raffle for a Hawaiian doll was drawn, and Miss Janet Horton proclaimed the winner. .
