Y.M.C.A. Winter Handicap WIN FOR S. EATON X . . An interesting evening was spent in the Y.M.C.A, billiards room on Tuesday, when the final of the members’ winter handicap was won by Mr. S. Eaton (30 behind) from Mr. W. J. Mason (scratch), 100—64. There were 80 entrants in this tourney, the prizes for which were a cue and case and a pipe respectively. The highest break in this series was registered by Mr.- Arthur Duncan, 36. The trophies will be presented this evening, when a match will be played between teams representing “New Zealand” and “Rest of World.” An entertaining exhibition match of 400 up was played between Mr. Angus Duncan, New Zealand champion, and Mr. H. Shanks. The latter took the lead early, putting up three nice breaks of 45. 40, and 43, but Duncan demonstrated his ability with a fine effort of 78, 30 of which came after losing the white, and emerged the winner,' 400— 375. Mr. Shanks demonstrated some fancy shots, following which the use of a sot of freak balls caused much amuse-, nient. During the evening a teams,, match was played between “New Zealand and “Australia.” : This finalised the first triangular contest for the Burder Cup. the New Zealand team proving superior over England and Austrabn. Air. A. HouJt compiled the highest break (34) in this scries. ■ On Thursday of last week a scries of novelty events was conducted at the request of the Red Cross Relief Department, the funds resulting therefrom being applied to that body. Members tried their skill at various contests, prizes being won by Messrs. S. Eaton, A. Hoult, H. Wilson, G. Paton, and others. A match has been arranged for next Tuesday night, when a Y.M.C.A. tenm will meet the Paramount Club, 15 aside
