VIGOROUS ATTACK
N.Z. Hockey Team’s Win TOOWOOMBA MATCH (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright-) (Rec. July 27, 9 p.m.) Toowoomba, July 27. The New Zealand hockey team beat Toowoomba to-day by 4 goals to nil. The teams were:— New Zealand: Moore, Andrews, Parker, Clark, Joblln (captain). Bollard, Rogers, Best, Bay. Turbitt, Wellborne. Toowoomba: Emmerson, Andrews, IPerry, Vagg. Mclntyre, Gatfleld, J. Perry, Adamson, Curran, Caldwell, Reithmuiler. New Zealand won the toss, attacking vigorously till Toowoomba cleared. Lack of support spoiled their chance. Again attacking, New Zealand forced a penalty corner, but failed to score. Clark was showing great stick work in the face of much opposition. New Zealand’s brilliant play overcame a Toowoomba counter-attack, and' enabled the forwards to assault the local goal vigorously, Bay scoring. A ding-dong battle continued till half-time.
New Zealand was again to the fore till a clearance by Perry took Toowoomba to the New Zealand circle, lack of cohesion preventing a scoreAgain New Zealand attacked and, despite Emmerson’s wonderful defence, Bay broke through and scored. Continuing the offensive, New Zealand pressed round the goal, Wellborne scoring. Toowoomba carried the ball to the New Zealand circle, two shots at goal miscarrying. Wellborne cleared, forcing Toowoomba back to its own goa] circle. However, Emmerson was too good on the defence till Rogers scored cleverly a minute before time. The game ended:—
New Zealand, 4; Toowoomba, 0. Andrews, Clark, Bay and Wellborne were outstanding players.
