A Winnipeg message reports that the most pronounced. rise in wheat prices for some months has put grain traders in an optimistic mood, and more active interest is being shown by exporters.

An application for a wages subsidy in connection with a new Wellington warehouse and bond store, to cost £10,050, is being considered by the officials of the Unemployment Board. A total of £4365 In wages is to be paid on this job.

Although Wellington’s shipping and cargo figures for May were down in comparison with the figures for May, 1931, the chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, said nt last evening’s meeting that the totals were actually a little better than was anticipated.

Reports of live stock sales from a number of centres indicate a much-improv-ed tone in the market. A record entry of fat sheep at Christchurch caused a slight easing in prices, but at Auckland. Dunedin, and other places improved prices were recorded.
