LEAGUE FOOTBALL

W. R. Irvine to Play Closely following the announcement that A. E. Cooke, the brilliant Rugby Union five-eighths, had gone over to the of the Rugby League, comes the news that W. R. Irvine, the famous All Black hooker of the New Zealand Rugby Union team which toured Britain in 1924, has also thrown in his lot with the League, and will take an active part in the game. Irvine is acknowledged to be one of the most successful hookers the Dominion has produced. He represented Hawke’s Bay when that province was at the zenith of its strength, and played for New Zealand in 1923,1924,1925 and 1926. He was a noted Rugby coach, and his services to the League code will be of great value.
