AMATEUR BILLIARDS

Wellington Championship COMPETITION CONTINUED Further progress was made in the Wellington inter-club amateur billiards championship at Billiards Limited’s showroom last evening. The earlv game was between IV . Moses, G.P.O Pastimes Club, and W. McDonald, National Club. McDonald was first off the mark, but. when Moses.found himself with a leave he played with great confidence, and soon overhauled his opponent. Once he took the lead he retained it, playing most consistent billiards, and making the best run of breaks so far in the event. His opponent took too.many risks, and in any ease was not nearly as accurate a player as Moses.- The latter’s long losing hazards were well played once he struck the angle, and he made a useful run of 30 off the red after losing the white. After his initial run of 20 McDonald only made 22, while Moses's breaks were 33, 27, 23, 34. 22, 46, and 30. The final score was Moses 300, McDonald 143. There was a good deal of interest in the second game between W. N. Tucker, Federal Club, and L. M. Kyle, Wellington, Working Men’s Club. It was a fairly even go until toward the end of the first hundred, when Tucker registered a break of 32 with a little luck in it, Kyle replied with 26, breaking down alter the red had run back on his opponents ball and knocked it down. They were level at 1-14 and again a useful fluke opened the wav for Tucker to add another run of 32. Both players were a little uncertain in their long losing hazards. Kyle failed to reply, and a 23 and one or two, small bands saw Tucker with a lead of o 7 ana only requiring 80 for game. His opponent could not get going, the loser being ms main trouble. The Federal man put on 21, and two hands later, losing the white at 6, made a run of 17 reds to make a break of 57 unfinished, reaching his points with the score: Tucker 300, Kyle 166. . Tucker’s breaks were better than those of Moses in the preceding game, being 21. 32. 36, 23, 21 and 57 unfinished. The games for this evening are: 7 p.m.. A. Duncan, U.S.A., v. H. Shanks. Wellington W.M.C.: S p.m., P. Devine, Petone W.M.C., v A. Freeman. R.S.A.
