MARKETS IN EAST

Opportunities for N.Z. ADVERTISING PRODUCTS In Mr. S. T. Williamson New Zealand has an ambassador in Hong-Kong who loses no opportunity to further the interests of New Zealand trade in the East. Mr. Williamson is an ex-Wel-lingtonian with a business established in Hong-Kong, and in a letter received by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening, he forwarded details of a recent successful Empire Day Fair held there, the main object of which was to push Empire goods, especially food. Mr. Williamson had arranged at the Fair a special display of New Zealand butter, and also had some flags and posters made, and specially endeavoured to push New Zealand interests forward. He also arranged for two New Zealanders on his staff to attend the fair and give any information they could regarding New Zealand. Mr. Williamson said he managed to get some New Zealand travel circulars, which were distributed locally. This was rather a good form of advertisement. and if the New Zealand Government or those in charge were in a position to forward any films or anything else in this line, he would be prepared to put same forward when occasion arose, and to give any assistance possible for the advancement of New Zealand interests. On Empire Day, Major Ducios, the Canadian representative, and himself, gave a dinner at 'the Peninsula Hotel, at which thirty-six sat down, including the Colonial Secretary, Chief Justice, and Consul-General from Canton, and several business men and their wives. They only had foods and wines of Empire origin, New Zealand being featured with lamb and butter. “I consider there is a definite market here for New Zealand goods, and I do think that New Zealand should get busy and have someone fully conversant with New Zealand products and their costs to investigate the possibilities on this market,” Mr. Williamson continued. “Further, I would be prepared to give anyone so appointed the benefit of my local knowledge, and would, if necessary, let them have the use of suitable office accommodation, which I have available.”
