RELIEF CONDITIONS
Petition to GovernorGeneral “UNITED FRONT” MOVE With the object of obtaining better conditions, the' organisers 6f the United Front Movement of Relief Workers and Unemployed have decided to petition the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe. The petition, which is being drawn up in legal form, is to be circulated next week, and forwarded to the Governor-General after signatures have been obtained. According to a statement made by the executiye of the United Front Movement last evening, this petition “will have nothing Io do with any other petition now being circulated by any other party, and is solely on behalf of relief workers.” It is explained that the move is prompted by the failure of the organisation to secure further concessions from the Government. At a recent meeting the United Front committee, which is resentful of the published assertions that the moveent is associated with the Communists or any other political party, decided to delete all political aims from its constitution. It is asserted by the organisers, who are meeting regularly, that the movement has 52 job delegates and 1250 financial members. The present activities, of the organisation include the issue of “dispatches from the front,” which consist of printed bulletins setting out the progress made by the executive. The latest of these claims is that within the last week the United Front, through its representations to the .City Council, has been responsible for obtaining four concessions for relief workers, including assistance in paying electric light arrears, in receiving milk for children, and also tramway concessions.
