A HANDFUL OF HINTS
Grained paint can.be cleaned by rubbing with a rag well soaked in linseed oil. Polish, after allowing to soak in a little. » » ♦ , A smooth, strong stick about 40in. Idng, notched at one end, is a useful thing to have in the house. With it pictures may be lifted by the wire from their hooks and replaced without the use of a step-ladder. - . - * s ■ * It is often found necessary to drill holes in glass. An easy way to do so is to mark the hole you wish to drill. Then make a small ring of putty round the mark about a- qiiafter of an inch high. Put a little oil inside the putty, and drill the .hole slowly. It will not crack or break 'the glass. To paint stained ceilings, take unslaked white lime, dilute with alcohol, and paint the. spots with it. 'When the spots are dry, which will be soon, since the alcohol evaporates and the lime forms a sort of insulating.layer, one can proceed to. paint with size colour. The spots will not show through again. ~,,
