SOCIAL EVENING

■ A very pleasant social gathering was held ou Tuesday in the-Vivian Street Baptist schoolroom in connection with the Baptist Chinese Mission. The hall was comfortably tilled with Chinese and European members of the church and friends. The Rev. Mr. Goring presided, and the evening was spent with musical and elocutionary items, anil speeches, interspersed with games, inchiding conjuring by Mr. Yun Tue Hee. The following contributed to the programme:—Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Dowling, Misses Sawden (2), Frauklyn, Messrs. Dowling. Franklyn, Chan Ye Hop, Kwan Hong Sum, Low Tung Ming, Low Jack Sum. Speeches were given by the Rev. Mr. Smith, the Rev. Wong of the Anglican Mission, the Rev. Lui, and Mr. Yue 11. Jackson, Chinese Vice-Consul. ' At the conclusion refreshments were hancied round.
