Mr. A. Tyndall, chief engineer to the Main Highways Board, will attend the next meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Progress League, on July 6, to give an address on the expenditure and commitments of the board as between the North and South Islands. Stowaways in British vessels are liable to a maximum penalty under the Merchant Shjnping Act of a fine not exceeding £2O or four weeks’ imprisonment with or without hard labour.
