F.A. TROPHY MATCH

Expenses of Soccer Trips SUGGESTIONS BY COUNCIL The Council of the New Zealand Football Association, al. its meeting lust night, received a letter from the Wellington Football Association suggesting that a AA’ellingtou team should visit Dunedin to play Otago for the F.A. trophy on July 2. The date is to be submitted to the Otago association for approval. Consideration was given in regard to travelling expenses of teams in the semifinal and final of the Chatham Cup series.’ The council felt that in making the grants already passed it had gone as far as it reasonably could. While agreeing that the teams are in a more difficult position than in other years, the council felt that special efforts, together with the assistance promised, would enable teams to meet their expenses in the semi-finals and final. The fact that the competition was creating greater interest justified them in expecting more financial assistance from the gates. In the matter of teams leaving their home towns, said the chairman, Mr. F. Campbell, the council might later consider assisting the finances of travelling teams, provided they had shown some initiative and willingness to carry a reasonable portion of the amount involved. A suggestion had been made from one club that some expense might be saved by travelling seeond-class instead of firstclass. Members of the council endorsed the suggestion. A telegram was received from AVestport association asking if there was any rule providing that Chatham Cup games should be played on a Saturday, as it was customary there to play games on a Sunday. The secretary is to reply that the matter may be settled according to local custom.

The South Auckland association reported that its team was beaten 2 —l by North Auckland for the Brown Shield last Saturday, and that the trophy was presented to the winners by the president of the South Auckland association, Mr. 11. Cable. Among the spectators at the match was Mr. Norrie Bell, the maker of the Shield.
