Liquor at Bellamy’s
Sir.—Noticing with regret in your issue of April 7 that the members of both Houses of Parliament have decided by an overwhelming majority •to continue the sale of liquor at Bellamys, I would like to inquire if this is considered necessary to enable members to keep both mentally and physically fit to manage the affairs of the country? I think no one will deny that some refreshment is absolutely necessary during the long hours and sometimes through all-night sittings that our representatives in Parliament: have to work, but are there not other and more sustaining beverages than alcoholic liquor? Then, ou the score of economy, which all are hearing so much about, and which no doubt was never more urgently needed in the history of our country, would not our politicians have been setting a praiseworthy example of economy if they had decided that, the sale of liquor in Bellamys should be discontinued?-! 6nomist . Masterton, April 9.
