Shop’s Large Sale (By Mavis.) London. February 24. Shopkeepers generally consider that February is 11 slack, unprofitable month. The latest fashion of making-up the face to match the frock, however, lias done much to alleviate the distress of mind caused by falling “turnovers” — at least as far as “buyers” is beauty departments are concerned. Last week, one large store alone disposed of: 900 boxes of loose powder, COO boxes of compact powder. 500 lipsticks. 400 pots of “cleansing” cream, 150 eyebrow pencils. 100 boxes of eyelash “paint,” 100 bottles of face lotions, skin tonics, aud kindred preparations.
