THE A.A. AIR SCOUTS

Everybody in England knows the familiar Automobile Association Scouts who patrol the roads to assist, motorists in difficulties. In NeW Zealand We are becoming familiar with the road scouts of our own Automobile Associations and Clubs, but now they have a new idea in England which we will not need to adopt just yet. The Aviation Division of the A.A. is to broadcast advice to airmen from a number of radio telephone stations, the first of which has just been established at Hendon, the great aerodrome just north of London, where the Royal Air Force holds its pageant every summer.

The Moth type of aeroplane, with a new kind of aerial stretched between the wing tips and the tail, can pick up these messages over a distance of a hundred miles. A new kind of loudspeaker. too, has been invented, which makes it much easier for the pilot or his passengers to hear. With this apparatus, a beginner making his first solo flight can hear the voice of his instructor as distinctly as if he were with him ill the machine. * r * The visitor was much impressed with little Joan’s hair. “What lovely curly locks.” she said. “You must got those from your mother.” “No.” said Joan. “They must, be from Daddy. His have dll gone.”

A DIVIDED 11'0111'. Three words arc missing in the following rhyme. The last two words consist of the same seven letters as the first word, in the same order. Here's the message as ’twas sent: — “It is 1234507 to be seen, my dear.” Here’s the message as ’twas meant: “It’s .123 4507 to be seen.” How queer That blending two words into one Should such a difference make. Just one word and we're undone: Loss it means; we’ve cause to quake. We read it over in nfrighl, But now it’s two words, so all is right. ANSWERS TO LAST WEEK’S PUZZLES JUMBLED BIRDS.
