TROUT IN ARAPUNI
Plans for Restocking REPORT TO AUTHORITIES Since the lake at Arapuui is already being well stocked with trout of good size, which are descending to its placid waters from the vicinity of Atiamuri, the Auckland Acclimatisation Society finds that there is no immediate need to c6mmence stocking of its own accord. It has decided to wait until a report is furnished to the July meeting by certain members who will, in the meantime, be deputed to fish the lake. Mr. F. E. McKenzie, president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, stated that if it is found necessary to restock the lake this will be done In October next, when both fly and ova will be put in. About 100,000 fly will be used, and rather more than that quantity of ova planted. About three years ago similar quantities of ova and fly were used to restock the lake. Since the lake was emptied some two years ago, all that the Acclimatisation Society has been able to do has been to clear the banks for about ten miles several feet above and below the water level.
If the society finds it necessary to restock, the cost should not amount to more than £lOO. Fly cost 10/- per 1000, and ova 4/- per 1000. This will be inclusive pt the cost of transport and labour required for planting.
