Mr. John Tait, of the directorate of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., is at present visiting Wellington. He has been advised by cable that the opening of the new grand opera company in Sydney on Saturday night last in “Aida” was a brilliant occasion. The theatre was packed, and the performance is reported to have reached a high artistic standard. The opening of the new company, headed by Miss Margaret Hickling in Noel Coward’s musical comedy “Bitter Sweet” in Melbourne on Saturday evening, was also very successful.
