KILLED BY VAN
Death of Gisborne Resident
INQUIRY CONCLVDED
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne. April 11,
After three days’ inquiry, an inquest concluded to-day into the circumstances surrounding the death of William Edward Hazell, who was fatally injured by a motor-van which collided with him while he was standing outslde.his shop on March 18. The coroner, Mr. P. H. Harper, in delivering his verdict, said that it had been clearly established that deceased was run down by a van driven by a youth named .Tames Rennie Elliott, and received injuries from which ho died later in hospital. It also seemed clear that the'van was out of control before the collision took place, and the brakes were not only defective, but practically useless. Whether the brakes were as defective before the accident or not, he (the coroner) was not prepared to say. He found that death was due probably to a fractured skull and other serious injures sustained when the van driven by Elliott collided with deceased.
