RUSSIAN PIANIST
Pianists ot tlie front rank visit this corner of the world only too seldom, and musicians and the music-loving public may have considerable satisfaction in the fact tliat so tine a pianist as the distinguished Russian, Paul Vinogradoff, proposes to begin his New Zealand tour in Wellington so early in tlie season. His first recital takes place in the Wellington Town Hall (Concert Chamber) next Thursday at. S p.m. The programme opens with Bach's Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, and this is to be followed by Beethoven's “Appussionata” Sonata and Schumann's delightful collection of little pieces under tlie grouptitle of “Carnaval." The second part of tlie programme includes a Chopin bracket (Waltz in A fiat, Nocturne in C minor, and Scherzo in B minor), a Scriabin group (Poem in F sharp, and Studies in F sharp and I) sharp minor); 'finally, Debussy's “Submerged Cathedral” and the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. C.
