Otaki Bridges

Sir, —To-day’s small flood has .again emphasised the danger to the southern ends of both the road bridge and the new railway bridge at Otaki as the result of the whole of the flood waters having been diverted to the southern bank of the Otaki River. Already a large hole has been scoured close to the southern pier of the railway bridge, while erosion is threatening the same end of the road bridge. Before it becomes too late, it behoves whatever bodies may be interested to take immediate steps to minimise the danger. Property owners on the southern bank of the river have already suffered through valuable land having been washed away, but. while their loss becomes greater with each succeeding flood, so also is the danger to the bridges being aggravated. Hence this effort to get the authorities to take some notice. —I am, etc., ANGLER. Otaki, April 5.
