Copyright. A piece of wax candle dissolved in hot starch facilitates ironing, giving ,a glossy surface, and helping to prevent the iron from sticking. Tea and coffee stains may be i amoved from fragile materials by dabbing the stain with glycerine, then sponging with tepid zvater and pressing on the reverse side. To wash delicate silk stockings, place them on ‘the hands as gloves, .dip in lukewarm lather, and. squeeze and knead gently. Rinse well in water of the same temperature, turn inside out, and hang up by the toe. Silk or artificial silk stockings should never be put through \the [wringer, as this is a certain cause of "ladders."
