GOETHE CENTENARY
Tribute to German Genius CELEBRATION IN LONDON (Rec. March 23, 5,5 p.m.) “ Official Wireless Rugby, March 22. Tbe Minister of Education, Sir Donald Maclean, presided at a Government luncheon in the House of Commons today in connection with the Goethe centenary celebrations. Among the guests was Herr Trovirapus, German Minister of Communications and Transport. At further celebrations to-nigbt the Foreign Secretary, Sir Jolui Simon, paid a tribute to “the memory of the Olympian figure, who not only belongs to Germany, but who stands for till time ns n great citizen of the world,” Sir John Simon described Goethe as a precursor of the spirit of InternatJoimi tolerance so much needed to-day, and declared that there was no country, other ilia I) his own country, where Goethe's name was held in higher reverence than in Britain,
Goethe, most distinguislierl of German poets and writers, and author of that great literary work, "Faust," died in 1832 at the age of 83.
