OBITUARY

Mrs. Ellen Judd The death occurred on Sunday morning of Mrs. Ellen Judd, relict of the late Mr. William Judd, a well-known resident of Masterton, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. The late Mrs. Judd, who was 76 years of age, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ralph, pioneer Wairarapa settlers. She herself bad resided in the town for 35 years. She took a keen interest in the activities of the Methodist Church. She was also a foundation member of the Loyal Ladies’ Orange Lodge No. 24. Mrs. Judd's husband predeceased her 13 years ago. She is survived by one son, Mr. W. IL Judd, of Masterton, three daughters, Mrs. W. R. Nicol, Masterton. Mrs. V. E. Hallam, Sydney, and Miss Vera Judd, Masterton: two brothers, Mr. W. A. Ralph. South Island, and Mr. S. H. Ralph, Masterton ; and; one sister, Mrs. D. Baillie, Wellington. Mr. H, Firman The death is announced at Christchurch of Mr. Henry Firman, ag’ed 58, secretary of the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association. The late Mg. Firman’s connection with several organisations, including the tomato growers, the Christchurch Horticultural Trades Association, and the Tomato and Soft Fruit Produce Council of New Zealand, made him well-known to growers and horticulturists throughout New Zealand. Mrs. Hannah Amelia Cairns The death occurred at her home, “The Laurels,” Chapel Street, Masterton, on Sunday afternoon of Mrs. Hannah Amelia Cairns, widow of the late James Cairns. g The late Mrs. Cairns, who was 59 years of age, was born and brought up in Timaru, where she spent a brief period in the education service before her marriage. She went to Masterton with her husband 30 years ago, and lived there ever since. Mrs. Cairns was known for her keen, active and helpful interest in church and social affairs. She was one of the first women members of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, on which she gave valued service for many years. For over 13 years sb- was engaged as a teacher of elocution at the Mnsterton Technical School, and was still actively engaged in this work until a few months ago. i Mrs. Cairns was predeceased by her’ husband about seven rears ago. Among her surviving relatives are three sons, three daughters and seven grandchildren. The sons are Messrs. Reginald Cairns, Wellington; Norman Cairns. Nelson; and Franklyn Cairns, Masterton. The daughters are Mrs. S. Cooper, Te Ore Ore: Mrs. G. C. Petersen, Palmerston North: and Miss Coyla Cairns, Masterton. The funeral took place yesterday.
