SMART ATTIRE

Australian Women Tennis Visitors COLOURED BANDEAUS The large crowd of tennis enthusiasts who watched the team of Australian women players and some of our New Zealand players on Saturday afternoon at Miramar, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A perfect day, well laid out courts, aeroplanes wheeling overhead, and first-class tennis' in excellent surroundings.

The visiting players were most tastefully dressed in frocks of old bleach linen, worn a little longer than the local players, and made in the prevailing fashion of short sleeves, high belted waists, and pleats from the hip or knees. Tiny linen hats were worn by some of the team, while coloured bandeaus were chosen by others. The most noticeable feature about the visitors to the onlooker was their unostentatious behaviour on the court and their sincerity in the game. Their tanned faces—devoid of make up—and tanned arms blended harmoniously with their spotless frocks. "White silk stockings and white tennis sox were worn also. •

During the afternoon tea spell the crowd moved to the pavilion to catch a closer glimpse of the visitors and drink tea, while others enjoyed tea or cooling drinks on the stand itself. The team were entertained at tea on Friday by Miss Margaret Whyte,'North Island singles champion, and there they met Miss Eva Travers, ex-New Zealand champion, Mrs. Gibson Stott, and Mrs. S. Todd. Yesterday afternoon they were the guests of Mr.. J. C. Peacock, president of the Wellington Tennis Association, and Mr£ Peacock, at Heretaunga, where a most delightful afternoon Was spent in the sunshine.
