Record Crowd at Lower Hutt PARISH FUNDS BENEFIT Saturday the 13th proved a lucky day for the St. James’s Parish, LowerHutt, garden party, held in the beautiful grounds of the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Riddiford. After a -week of unpleasant southerly weather the day was sunny and windless, and all the well-laid plans of Mrs. L. M. Leighton, organising- secretary for the Parish garden party, and her helpers were able to be carried out. The crowd who flocked in the green iron gates of “Woburn” and walked the long drive with its canopy of giant gums, was a record one—--1200 people eager to support the church in time of need. The lawns, with their shelters of high hedges, were ideal for the stalls and various competitions, and the big trees made excellent shade from the hot sunshine. Afternoon tea was set outside on small tables in rustic simplicity at the left of the house, while at one corner of the large front lawn was set an outdoor theatre where Greek maidens danced, and pillage lads and lassies sang folk songs and danced old “Rufty Tufty” and “Hunsdon House.” This charming performance by,, the girls’ club of St. James’s Church, under the
