LAMB AND MUTTON
Dominion’s Record Exports TEN-MILLION MARK
Well over 10,000,000 carcases of lamb and mutton were exported from the Dominion during the twelve months ended September 30. This record was shown in the returns for the 1930-31 season, issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. The exports of lamb were 7,824,937 carcases, this record figure exceeding the total for the 192930 season by over one million carcases. The exports of mutton showed an increase of 331,241 carcases. There was very little change in the figures for pork. Details of the exports and destinations of the frozen meat shipped during 1930-31 are shown in the following table, the totals for 192930 being given for comparative purposes : —
In addition, 119,445 bags of boneless beef (of which 112,054 bags went to Glasgow) were exported during 1930-31, as compared with 87,986 bags (75,600 to Glasgow, 3333 to U.S.A., and 946 to Genoa) during 1929-30. On the other hand, killings of mutton at 2.132,532 carcases showed a decrease of 488,743 carcases as compared with 1929-30. The killings of pork at 132,400
carcases show a slight decrease of 1191 carcases. The killings of lamb in the North Island were 3,455,709 carcases (3,074.916 in 1929-30) and in the South Island 4,327,819 carcases (3,850,943 in 1929-30).
