Dannevirke Ram Fair KEEN DEMAND FOR DOWNS. At the twenty-third annual ram fair at Dannevirke, held on Thursday, under the auspices of the Dannevirke A. and P, Association, there tvas keen competition, especially for Southdowns. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report that they topped the market in Romneys with a pen of four on account of Mr. J. E. Hewitt, which realised Si guineas. This was the first prize pen in the flock Romney section at the Dannevirke show. They also topped the market with a pen of five Southdowns on account of Mr. J. W. Hutchinson, of Woodville, which realised Gt guineas. This was also the first prize pen at the Dannevirke show. Other sales were:— Romneys: Account J. E. At the Gisborne sale, fat sheep were in short supply, and prices advanced. Ewes, prime heavy, 7/-; others, 5/10 to 6/7; lambs, prime 40-pounders. 12/11; medium weights. 8/1; wethers, 9/5; maiden ewes, 7/9. A Store Sheep.—An entry of SOO. mostly quality station ewes. Following the bounteous rain it was a very keen sale, with a great demand for ewes, prices of which further advanced. Ewes, sound mouth, to 5/-; six-year, 5/11; five-year, 7/-; four-year, 6/1; six and eight-tooth, 5/11 to 7/10; four-tooth, extra, 10/7 to 11/6; two-tooth, extra, 11/2; good, 9/10; lambs, good woolly. 6/3; medium shorn, 4/9; wethers, fairly good. 8/2; average stores, 7/2. The minimum price was about 2/6. Feilding Sale At the Feilding sale on Friday, Associated Live Stock Auctioneers, Ltd., offered a very fair entry of fat lambs and fat sheep, which sold under keen competition at full market rates. Fat lambs, 9/10, 10/3, 10/6. 11/6; a few extra good, 15/-; fat ewes, 5/9, 6/6, 6/7, 6/8; few woolly fat ewes, 8/-; fat wethers, 10/-, J.l/-; few extra good, 13/4; fat b.f. 2-tooths, 11/3, 12/3. Store Sheep.—There was a very large entry of store sheep and for all lambs, especially black faces there was a keen demand at decidedly advanced rates. Wethers met a ready sale, but the demand was not particularly keen for breeding ewes. Associated Live Stock Auctioneers, Ltd., offered 2500 sheep. The entry comprised mostly annual draft ewes, which sold very freely, prices being slightly better than recent sales. The annual draft ewes on account M. W. Higginson, four and five-year, realised 9/1. The east ewes on account C. C. Higginson brought 8/2. The straight four-year ewes account Wm. Cromb topped the sale at 9/9. the fiveyear ewes on account, of the same vendor realised 8/1. Two-tooth ewes elicited keen competition, C. C. Higginson’s ewes making 12/7. Prices: Four-year ewes, to 9/9; five-year ewes, 7/-. 7/6, 7/9, 8/1 to 8/2; four and five-year ewes, 6/6, 7/-, 7/4, S/- to 9/1 ; two-tooth ewes, 10/-, >ll/11. 12/1, 12/7; four and six-tooth ewes, medium, 8/6 to 10/-; two-tooth wethers, 7/- to 8/10. Alfrcdton Ewe Fair At the Alfrcdton ewe fair on Saturday. Associated Live Stock Auctioneers. Ltd., offered a yarding of 8800 head. Bidding was very brisk, particularly from Manawatu buyers, who dominated the sale. With the exception of the Clapham Estate 5-year ewes, which topped the market at 9/5, and were bought by a Masterton grazier, all the other big lines went to the West Coast, and altogether they purchased 4700.
