BIRD’S COLLECTIONS
Fishing Casts and Flies A correspondent in a recent issue of the "New Zealand Fishing aud Shooting Gazette” tells an interesting story of bow a roadman's east and flies mysteriously disappeared for a fortnight and were discovered in the most unlikely of places. An acquaintance pf his was preparing his tackle for au evening's fishing in the Buller. His cast and Illes were prepared, and. having to go ipdoors for more tapkle, he laid the cpsf. aside on a bench in the backyard. YVlten he returned five minutes later. the cast was nowhere to be seen. After hunting high ami low he gave it. up for lost, blaming the children for having taken it. A fortnight later the children were birdnesting near the house, when they found a nest around the side of which was coiled the missing cast, with the two flies still attached. The correspondent, states that if his friend had had tvorms on tlie hooks he could have understood the l-ird taking it. but thpt surely this w;is the first case of a thrush rising with an artificial lly—even if only for decoration.
