Copyright. tVashing up is generally considered to be the most tiresome of all household tasks, but the labour can be greatly minimised by method and the use of various aids. In the first place, the job looks much less formidable if the dishes are scraped and piled neatly together. A fete drops of household ammonia in the water helps wonderfully. Wash the glass first in warm water and dry with a linen cloth, polishing afterward with silk or tissue paper. Add hot water for the silver, 1 rinse in a jug of clean hot water, and dry at once. It is well to remember that soda is apt to destroy gilt on china, and is actually injurious to aluminium-ware. For rubbing obstinate spots, a good scouring powder is easily made at honied Mix 1 part powdered pumice with three parts soap powder; blend well together, and keep in a tin with a perforated lid. _____________
