NOTABLE MOTORSHIP PERFORMANCES.
Some remarkable instances are recorded in the “Motor Ship,” of the performance of motor vessels exceeding in service the speeds for which they were designed, 'The luxury liner Victoria, for tie TriesteAlexandria trade, was built to maintain a schedule involving an average speed of 20} knots. On her first ten trips she has averaged 20,8 knots. The Venus was built for the Newcastle-Bergen passenger trade and designed for 19 knots. Out of the first 81 trips, 67 were made at a speed of over 19 knots, and last month she accomplished one at over 20 knots. The Amerika, a cargo and passenger vessel designed for 14} knots, averaged 15.46 knots on a recent voyage of several weeks’ duration; and the Blue Funnel cargo liner Deucalion, designed as a 14}knot ship, had a mean speed of 16.1 knots on a voyage lasting nearly a month. It is worthy of record that the Venus and the Victoria are each doing the work 'of two steamers which were originally engaged in the service in which they now run. BY TELEGRAPH. OVERSEAS. LONDON.
