TRAVELLED AS MAIL
Engineer’s Novel Journey \ London, November 19. Urgently summoned to Rhodesia for the building of a bridge before the commencement of the seasonal rains, Mr. William Ribbins, a Portsmouth engineer, is travelling to Rhodesia as air mail. Imperial Airways Ltd. does not carry passengers to Africa, so that Mr. Ribbins was weighed as a parcel. At the rate of 7d for the first half-ounce and 6d for each half-ounce thereafter, his passage is costing £7O from Brindisi (Italy) to Tanganyika (East Africa). From Tanganyika he will travel by a private aeroplane to Rhodesia. The entire trip from Croydon is costing £2OO. It will take one week, instead of five occupied by the ordinary land and sea passage.
