CROQUET TOURNEY
Last of Eliminating Rounds CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 11. Only the Manawatu Croquet Club's greens were played on to-day in the last of the elimination rounds of the North Island croquet tourney. In the morning the semi-final of the first life of the ladies’ singles championship was decided, Mrs. Watkins defeating Mrs. Kibblewhite, 26 —1. The final of the second life of the ladies’ singles was won by Mrs. Caldow, who defeated Mrs. Anstis, 26— 2-1. Following are the results:—
Ladies’ Championship.—Second life, third round: Mrs. Anstis beat Mrs. Cole, 2G—-1. Semi-finals: Mrs. Anstis beat Mrs. Matthewson, 26—3; Mrs. Caldow beat Mrs. Benfell, 26—8. Final: Mrs. Caldow (Wellington) beat Mrs. Anstis (Takaro), 26—24. First life, second round: Mrs. Keys beat Mrs. Gambrill, 26—18. Semi-finals: Mrs. Watkins beat Mrs. Kibblewhite. 26—1. Handicap Doubles.—Semi-finals: Mrs. Simpson and Mrs, Usmar (9}), beat Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Fenwick, 26—18. Handicap Singles.—Third round: Mrs. Pitcaithley (J) beat Mrs. Tiffen (ser.), 26—10.
