LIVED WITH SELWYN
Old Man Found Drowned INFORMATION TO POLICE By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, January 11. . It is believed that the man found drowned in the Manawatu River on Sunday is Sam. Dennis, of Invercargill, aged 82. This information was furnished to the police by a resident of Palmerston North, who read a description published in this morning’s paper. Dennis, he says, called at his house on Saturday morning and declared he was destitute and hungry. He told the householder that he came from Invercargill, and was two years of age when he arrived in New Zealand, adding that he had been in Auckland 80 years ago. He further said he lived with Bishop Selwyn, assisting him to translate the New Testament into Maori. He said he had no relatives in the Dominion and his father had been in the Royal Engineers and had been drowned in Auckland.
