PROBLEM FOR ZOO
Monkey and Glasses / WON’T WEAR THEM The Zoo has established for all time that monkeys cannot, will not, and have no intention of ever wearing spectacles, writes L. B. Brightwell, in the “Daily Mail.” Blanco, the Zoo's Albino Maiigabey, has for some years attracted attention by shading his eyes with one hand’wlien the sun appears. This is because his eyes are hypersensitive. A pair of “lightly smoked” or "muted mouse” spectacles were therefore made, and fitted, but Blanco would not have them. Even when they were made to his liking neighbours took such an interest in the face fittings that it was impossible to keep them in position for 10 seconds at a time. At meals visibility was bad—with a splash of condensed milk on oiie lens arid a piece of banana on the other. I have seen cows in Iceland wearing blizzard-proof spectacles .With equanimity—but then cows have not got hands —nor the monkey’s devouring curiosity. So Blanfeo now lives in shady quarters at the Zoo Sanatorium, where there is a bounteous table and plenty of cheerful society. A monkeyasks no more of life.
