RAWENE WINS
Marangi First to Finish OCEAN YACHT RACE Dominion Special Service. , Havelock, December 28. Sailed in light to moderate northwest weather, i the annual Christmas ocean race of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club resulted in a win on corrected times for the Evans Bay boat Rawene,
Marangi, the crack Port Nicholson boat, was first to finish, Atlanta was second, Viola third, Wairere fourth, and Rawene fifth. The course was from Wellington to Port Jackson, and a start was made between 1 a.in. and 2.30 a.m. on Christmas Day, live boats starting. A good breeze was experienced until the boats were well across the Strait, when the weather became very light.
Marangi, the scratch boat, was the first to complete the course, and Basil Tonks’s Atlanta, last year’s winner, was second, Marangi had, however, to concede too much to the other boats, and the adjusted times altered the race as follows: —
Rawene (H. Duncan), 3J hours .... 1 Atlanta (B. Tonks), 2J hours .... 2 Wairere I (McWliannel and Parkin), 2 hours 3
