Dunedin, December 12, The Sanders Cup trial race held on Otago harbour to-day resulted in another
win for XVinifred. The weather for the greater part of the race was flukey. There a light, south-east wind, which suited XVinifred perfectly. The crews were changed round before the race, C. Pettitt, skipper of Squib, being placed in Heather, and McGrath taking charge of XX’inifred, and Kennedy sailing Squib. After the first round XX’inifred went to the front and at one stage had an advantage of nearly six minutes over Heather, which was then second, but in the last round of the course the wind dropped and became so flukey that it was merely a question of luck in securing the breeze. Squib here came up into second placerand the race finished at a very slow pace, with XVinifred about five and a half minutes ahead of Squib, and Heather oyer three minutes further astern in third place. First Auckland Race By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, December 12. The first Auckland trial for the Sanders Cup contest was held yesterday, and resulted in a win for Rangi by 2min. 15 sec from Jean. Desert Gold was the other competitor. The second trial will be held on XX’ednesday.
