“TURNED THE CORNER”
Position in England I : . DR. FENWICK RETURNS After six months spent in England, partly on holiday and partly in investigating the latest developments in hospital and medical practice, Dr. D. Eardley Fenwick, of Wellington, returned by the Rotorua yesterday Dr. Fenwick said on his arrival that from what he had seen he was convinced that New Zealand’s hospitals could hold their own with similar institutions in England. Definitely they were not behind those of the Old Country.
Discussing the economic situation, Dr. Fenw’ick said he considered that things had definitely turned the corner in England. From talks that he bad had with prominent businessmen he was convinced that Engla . was now on the up-grade, rather than on the down-grade. Following the general election there
was a decided note of optimism. Al-. ready certain manufactures had been Stimulated, and with a stable Government confidence would be restored. The election had been fought on the issue of tariffs and protection versus free, trade. The protectionists had, won, and only the future could tell whether it was for the country’s good or otherwise.
