Sir James Parr, Leader of the Legislative Council, arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Saturday on his way to the South Island. Sir James will be the principal guest and speaker at the breaking-up ceremony of Waitaid High School to-morrow. Mr. Douglas Stark, of Wellington, who has been overseas for the past 18 months, returned by the Rotorua yesterday morning. Mr. W. Kirkham and Mr. J. Donnelly, / uckland; Mr. •C. Shuttleworth, Nelson ; and Mr. F. M. Devery, Kakanul, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. G. L. Petersen, advance manager for Wirth’s Circus for 33 years, arrived in Wellington on Saturday, to arrange for a season here. Mr. R. Herbert Webb, or the legal firm of Webb, Richmond, and Swan, returned yesterday by the Rotorua, with Mrs. Webb, from a ten months’ tour of England and the Continent. / Mr. T. S. Jones. New Plymouth; Mr. W. von Rufs, Zurich; Mr. C. J. Speer, Colombo; Mr. C. Jones, Christchurch; Mr. P. Elworthy, Timaru; Mr. H. Spry, and Mr. L. A. Cody, Melbourne, are at the Hotel St. George. Mr. E. F. Watts, Blenheim; Mr. A. F. Hudson, Sydney; Mr. A. S. Butler, London; Mr. C. N. Taylor, New Plymouth ; Mr. J. Bischoff, Paris; and Mr. H. Zeisler, Wanganui, are at the Royal Oak Hotel. Lieut.-Commander J. H. Walker, R.A.N., was a passenger by' the Rotorua, which arrived in Wellington yesterday from London and Southampton, via Suva. He is proceeding to Sydney, returning to duty in the Royal Australian Navy. Dr. D. Eardley Fenwick, of Wellington, who has been in England during the past six months, partly on holiday and partly studying the latest methods of hospital practice, returned by the Rotorua yesterday morning. Dr. 11. J. Milbank-Smith, of Worthing, Sussex, arrived at Wellington yesterday morning by the Rotorua on a holiday visit to New Zealand. He was accompanied by Mrs. Milbank-Smith, and after five weeks in the north, will return Home by way of Australia. Colonel C. O. Dowding, D. 5.0., M.C.,; returned to New Zealand from a short trip to England by the Rotorua yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Dowding. Colonel and Mrs. Dowding have their residence in Gisborne, and were in Napier at the time of the earthquake. Dr. G. E. Thompson, Professor of Modern Languages at the University of Otago, returned to New Zealand by the Rotorua yesterday. Dr. Thompson has been absent from the Dominion since January last, and lias been travelling the United States, England, and Germany, visiting and inspecting the universities.
Mr. Cyril L. Westcott, who arrived from Australia last week with' Mr. Norman (“Wizard") Smith’s party, is now in Wellington. Mr. Westcott Is representing Lord Wakefield of Hythe, donor of the trophy for the world land speed record, and lie will be present when “Wizard” Smith makes his speed attempt on the Ninety Mile Beach next month.
