CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING

Hutt Valley Gun Club

On Saturday afternoon the members of the Hutt Valley Gun Club fired the first stage of the club championship, 21 birds, from the 12 yards mark. A tricky southeast wind tended to make shooting conditions rather difficult, and toward the end of the match the birds were rising quickly into the wind. W. J. 11. Haase and zi. Dennison were the most successful competitors in shooting 20 birds apiece, and had to shoot off for the trophy allotted to the match, Haase winning on the fourth extra bird from the 15 yards mark. The second match was for. the Tisdall Cup, and was won by L. A. Caldwell.from the 19 yards mark, with a possible of 15 birds', all broken with the first barrel. As this was Caldwell’s third win, the cup becomes his own property.

The afternoon concluded with two double-rise events, the first being divided between IT. Smith and H. 11. Morris, with 6 birds apiece. The second was won by C. Moore, with 9 birds, IV. J. H. Haase being second .with 7 birds. The following are the detailed results: Championship—First stage. 21 birds off 12 yards: IV. J. H. Haase, 20 birds (winner of trophy); A. Dennison, 20 birds; C.
