played the better football. Both teams made one or two changes, Cameron again duputising for McVean in goal for Petone while Hanlon played right in place of Watson, who has returned to Australia. Play had not been going very long when Baistow received from Campbell and screwed the ball to the centre, where Leslie, right on the spot, headed past Lil without giving the goalie a chance. Petone were soon attacking again, EH making a fine save against Hanlon. Boe put inside to Campbell who sent Smith away in company with Leslie, but Thompson ’made a smart clearance, enabling the Hospital forwards to.catch Petone napping, and Stanbridge netted a good goal. hospital raided the visitors end several times, Trewick spoiling one chance by handling. Craig had been well held by Miles, but for once the winger got by, centred squarely to Leslie, and once more Petone took the lead. Before the interval arrived Hospital should at least have drawn level, but failed to take advantage ° Soon f after* Restarting Stanbridge was nearly through when Holmes handled. Thompson took the free-kick, and placed the ball at 40 yards right in the goalies arms—a great attempt, well saved. At the other end Ell gathered a low shot from Graig. Campbell returned the ball well up, and Thompson and Leslie had a race for possession. A corner-kick was taken by Craig, from which the ball went out to Baistow, who made a quick return for Leslie to head In number three. A further assault was repulsed, thorn which Hospital made a hot-attack. A. Petone player handled in the penalty area and Jeffreys converted the penalty-kick. Petone 3, Hospital 2. . Toward the end Ell brought off a wonderful save from Leslie, who sent in a terrific drive at close range, while at the other end Lambert sent a lovely shot which Cameron just managed to divert over the top. There were several corners on either side but none, was converted, and the whistle went with Petoue victors by the odd goal. Mr. F. Sanders was the referee. () OCTAVE OF GOALS Diamonds Defeat Seatoun Eight goals were scored in the Auld Cup-tie between Diamonds.and .Seatoun, the lion’s share going to Diamonds. I lie game was played at the Basin Reserve before a fair crowd of spectators. Sentoun had the better of the exchanges in the early part of the game, but did not score, Smith opening Diamonds account on receiving a nice pass from Dickinson. Geddis was injured shortly after this, but returned later. Grimstone and Kershaw initiated a move whih enabled the Diamonds defence to be passed, and a good centre was put into the net by Salt heading through. Diamonds became more aggressive, and breaking away on the right R. McLeod gave Dickinson a chance which was availed of to give the Blacks the lead again, an infringement that appeared to be in the penalty area should have given Seatoun a penalty, but the referee ruled it outside, and the free-kick achieved nothing. Half-time, 2 —2. The second spell opened by a sensational breakaway and score by Smith on his own, but the lead was not held for long, Seatoun netting following a misunderstanding. Diamonds were somewhafortunate in having the advantage of the wind in both halves, as it changed soon after the interval. Grimstone all but netted from a corner-kick, Kershaw shooting over from the rebound. Forced to defend, Seatoun conceded a corner, Dickinson giving his side the lead as the bail came to the centre. An even spell of play followed, but Seatoun failed to get past Wyatt again and just before the finish ♦ McLeod went away on the wing and sent in a long shot which partly deceived Parkin, for he failed to hold the ball, which' entered the net. There was no further scoring, and Diamonds won 5—3. 'Mr. L. C. Cooper was the referee.
