Farmer Badly Injured WIFE GOES TO RESCUE By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, September 3. A farmer, Mr. O. Avisen, on the Tukituki Settlement. Haumoana, near Hustings, was "terribly injured by a Jersey bull? which turned upon him and gored him on his farm on Tuesday. His thighs were slashed about, and other parts of his body were extensively mutilated. It is believed, however, that no serious internal injuries were inflicted. He had hardly a shred of clothing left on his body when his wife, who bravely attacked the bull with a hay fork, came’ to his rescue, and with the assistance of neighbours took her husband into safety. Mr. Avisen was not fit to be removed until yesterday afternoon, when he was taken to the Hastings Memorial Hospital and immediately operated upon. It is reported that his injuries are serious, but not critical. He is suffering considerably from shock. WAIKATO FARMER HURT Infuriated Bull’s Charge Dominion Special Service. Auckland. September 2. While driving a bull on to the property of a neighbour, Mr. Roy 11. James, of French Pass Road, Cambridge. was charged by the animal and knocked down. Tlie infuriated beast had commenced to gore its victim when the sou of a neighbour drove the animal off with the aid of a batten. Mr. James had his face gashed from the ehin to the right eye. and had to be admitted to the Waikato Hospital. He is progressing satisfactorily.
