Escape of Twelve Convicts SIX PERISH ON JOURNEY (Rec. September 3, 7.30 p.m.) i Paris, September 8. The story of the escape of twelve convicts from Devil’s Island Is related In a letter received by the relatives of an ex-prisoner who was sentenced to 20 years for robbery. He and eleven others escaped while working in the jungle. They struggled for 15 days through dense undergrowth, enduring great hardships, living ou berries, and menaced by wild beasts. Eventually they reached the coast when they commandeered two rowing boats. Ono capsized in a storm, drowning six. The other reached Venezuela, where they have hopes of obtaining their freedom.
