TRAMWAY BLOCKED

Slip on Wadestown Line Partially disorganising the Wadestown tram service, a slip occurred in the cutting at Highland Park, between Barnard Street and Sefton Street, about nine o’clock last evening. For some weeks relief workers have been engaged In widening the cutting, - to enable the line to be duplicated. At the point where the slip took place the'bank was about 50 feet high and had been undermined to. some extent by,the cutting away of the rotten rock base. A city-bound- tram was passing down the cutting when the clay bank gave way, a large piece of clay striking the rear step of the car, which had just cleared the spot where the main portion fell. It is estimated that between 50 and 100 tons of spoil came down, completely blocking the line. A car on the north side of the Blip was used to connect with the city-bound • cars, passengers having to transfer at the slip. Several men were put on, and they expected to have the line cleared early this morning.
