Mount Victoria Tunnel
Sir. —I see that the Loans Board has granted permission to the Wellington City Council to raise a loan of • £ l l > B °o the construction of the road through the new tunnel, but that the engineer s estimate of the cost is £16,000 It is therefore considered that an additional iozUU will have to be found by the ratepayers. I understand that the Wellington Ratepayers' Association has suggested to the Mayor that tenders be called for the construction of the road, and seeing that the accepted tender for the construction of the tunnel was a good deal under the estimate, it is more than likely that a tender for the road would be put m for the amount of the loan and so save the additional contribution. May I the hope that his Worship will accept the suggestion and call for tenders at an early S &RDAIN Wellington, August 28.
