Vice-Regal. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, made an official visit to the motor-ship Rangitane at the Glasgow Wharf yesterday. He was accompanied by Sir John Hanham. The Vice-Regal party was met at the vessel by Mr. J. H. 0. Bond, Dominion superintendent, Mr. C. W. Turrell, Wellington manager, and Captain W. Olpbcrt, marine superintendent, of the New Zealand Shipping Company. This morning his Excellency will open the annual conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation. Sir Donald McGavin left for the north by the Limited express last evening. Sir James Parr was a passenger from Auckland by the Limited express yesterday. Mr. W. J. Hammill, secretary of the Auckland Rugby League, is visiting Wellington. Bishop Molyneux, Bishop of Melanesia, left for Auckland by the Limited express last evening. Mr. F. Beaumont Smith, of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., returned by the Ulimaroa yesterday after a brief business trip to Sydney. Mr. Elsdon Best, the Maori historian and ethnographer, is seriously ill. Some months ago he suffered a fall, and has since been confined to his home. Mr. G. S. Troup, until recently secretary to the International Student Club at Paris, returned to New Zealand by the Ulimaroa yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. Troup. Mr. R. H. Ellis, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company, Singapore, arrived in Wellington yesterday on the Ulimaroa. He has come out on six furlough. ' Mr. I. B. Boulton and Mr. H. Stewart, Christchurch; Mr. W. G. Wilkie and Mr. J. Loudon, Dunedin; Mr. E. F. Lord, Nelson; and Mr. F. Pepper, Hawera, are at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. E. B. Paton, of the staff of the Wellington Harbour Board, returned to New Zealand yesterday by the Ulimaroa, accompanied by Mrs. Paton. They have been on a six months’ trip to Scotland, England, Belgium and France. Dr. E. Sondner, of Bendigo, Victoria, arrived in Wellington by the Ulimaroa yesterday. He will spend a short while in New Zealand before continuing his journey to Edinburgh, where he will undertake post-graduate studies in medicine and surgery. Dr. J. P. McQuilkin, formerly of Southland, arrived in Wellington by the Ulimaroa yesterday from Sydney. lie has been away for two years doing postgraduate study in Great Britain and on the Continent. Dr. McQuilkin was accompanied yesterday by his wife and son. Mr. J. D. Jacobs, Sydney; Mr. L. P. Barrett, Christchurch; Mr. 14. C. Robertson, Mr. D. Robertson, and Mr. S. M. Rogerson, Auckland; Mr. D. Paterson, New Plymouth; Mr. J. F. McKenzie, Dunedin; nnd Mr. G. Pharazyn. Dnnncvirke. are at the Hotel St. George. Mr. N. A. Falla, general traflie manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, who has been visiting England, is returning to the Dominion by the New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor-iiner Rangitiki, which left Southampton last Friday for Auckland and Wellington. She is due at Auckland on October 1. Mr. G. F. O’Rourke, Pahiatua; Mr. J. S. Connell, Mr. G. Rowe and Mr. A. L. Macfarlane, Christchurch; Mr. C. A. Ramsay, Mr. W. Brosgarth and Mr. G. JI. Pritchard. Sydney; Mr. E. P. Neale, Auckland; Mr. J. A. Fcrgusson, Melbourne ; Mr. G. N. Tindell, Darwin; and Mr. W. J. Martin, Nelson, are at the Grand Hotel.
