NAVAL VISITORS
Farewell Courtesies Messages were exchanged between the Governor-General and the commander of the Chilean corvette, General Baquedano, prior to the vessel's departure from Auckland. “Before leaving the shores of New Zealand I beg your Excellency to accept together with my last farewell my most sincere thanks, and also the compliments of the officers and men of the Chilean cor* vette General Baquedano, for the kind hospitality given to us, and with our best regards for your personal happiness and that of-your Government,’’ wrote Comandante Alvarez. To this Lord Bledisloe Replied: I thnnk you for your telegram, which I muon appreciate. The "isit of the Chilean corvette General Baquedano was welcome to the people of New Zealand as affording them an opportunity of giving expression to the cordial feelings of friendship which they entertain towards Chile and its people. On their behalf, and on that of the Government and myself, I wish you and. your officers and men a pleasant voyage and a safe return to your country.”
