McDonald, M.P., is considering nomination for the Wairarana ward of the Wellington Education Board, in place of Mr. Wade, who has retired. Mr. T. Clarkson, Christchurch; Sir. A. R. Baker, Gisborne; Mr. W. E. Sill, Mr. J. Malcolm, and Mr. W. H. Moody, Auckland, are at the Hotel Grand Central. Lieutenant G. H. Heal, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, who returned recently from duty in Samoa, has been attached to the training depot at Trentham. Mr. G. L. Stewart, of Wadestown, who retired from the secretaryship of the Wellington Education Board a few months ago, has been appointed an associate of the Children’s Court. Professor H. Dunedin; Mr. H. C. Cook, Nelson; Messrs. G. W. Smith and H. Smith, Invercargill; and Mr. H. R. Jenkins. Palamos, Spain, are at the Hotel St George. Mr. R. R. Ireland, Oamaru; Mr. R. J. Lyon. Mr. G. General Sir Alexander Godley, G.C.8., who commanded the New Zealand Forces in the earlier days of the Great War and who is now Governor of Gibraltar, has been given a stall in the Chapel of the Order of the Bath (King Henry VII Chapel) in Westminster Abbey. In these stalls the banners are hung and the coats-of-arms of Knights Grand Cross of the Order are placed. The figure of a New Zealand infantry soldier appears on the coat-of-arms chosen by General Godley. Mr. M. F. Luckie, who for 16 years has represented tho City Council on the Wellington Technical College Board of Governors, retired at the meeting of the board on ‘ Tuesday, and was . farewolled by the chairman, Mr. W. H. Bennett, who expressed the appreciation of the board and citizens generally of the services he had rendered to the cause of technical education. Mr. Luckie said his regret was that a few years ago technical education was not appreciated as greatly as it was to-day, otherwise the Dominion’s secondary industries would have been much further advanced than they were. Mr. John Carter, manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia, has received advice of his transfer to the managership of the Union Bank at Brisbane. Born at Adelaide, South Australia, Mr. Carter was edlacated at St. Peter’s College, and gained extensive experience in Australia before coming to New Zealand about 25 years ago to accept an appointment as accountant of the Union Bank at Palmerston North. Twelve months later he was appointed manager of tho Helensvillo branch, subsequently being transferred to I.amilton, and returning to Palmerston North as manager of the bank about eighteen years ago. Mr. Carter is a keen golfer and also took part in the management of the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club. He is also a vocalist and violinist
