Ranfurly Shield Rugby OPPOSING TEAMS Representative Hockey Wellington’s second match for the Ran- » furly Shield will be played at Athletic Park this afternoon against a strong challenging side from Canterbury. ' The visiting team, which has been touring the southern part of the North Island, won,a substantial victory against Wanganui last Saturday and was narrowly defeated by Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday; It includes a number of well-kndwn players, and its contest against Wellington, which is admittedly a strong side this year, should provide interesting football. In both sides a number of players who are in the running for New Zealand honours will be seen in action. As a curtain-raiser to the big match a game between St, Patrick’s College (Silverstream) and St. Bede’s College .(Christchurch) is set down. The game between Hospital and Petone at the Basin Reserve will probably determine the first division championship, and in view of the hard game these two teams played in the Chatham Cup a month ago some thrills are quite on the cards. Thistle and Diamonds Will play at Kelburn Park, and Marist and W.Y.M.I. at Kilbirnie Stadium. League Football. :Two matches will be staged by the Wellington Rugby League at the' Winter Show Stadium. City and Newtown will meet at 2 p.m., and Petone and Old Boys will take the field at. 3.10 p.m. Hockey. ' -A men’s senior representative match between Wellington and Wairarapa will be played at the Basin Reserve, commencing at 3 o'clock. 'The r Wellington women’s team to compete .for the K Cup iu the Dominion tournament commencing at Auckland next Saturday will play a strong team, from the Rest, at the Basin Reserve as a curtain-raiser' to jhe men’s representative hockey match. The game will commence at 1.45 o’clock on No. 2 ground. The senior B trials will take place at Newtown Park at 3 o’clock. Lowergrade games will be played, at Eastbourne. Pirie Street, Hutt, Karori, Tanera Cres-cent-and; Porirua. Golf. ; ■ An interclub match will be played be-, tween Shandon and Titahi on the Shandpti links tohlay. A medal round twill be played on the Hutt links. A match will be played between the Shandon Ladies’ Club and the Titabi Ladies’ Club on the Titahi course. ~ A bogey competition figures on the Manor Park card for to-day, and the first 36 holes of the 72-hole stroke competition for the Harrower Cup will be got off during the .week-end. ■ The Waiwetit Ladies’ Club will play a one-chib competition for Mrs. Parkinson’s trophy to-day. • A match will be played between the Miramar and Masterton clubs on the Miramar links to-morrow. The Mornington Ladies’ Club will play a competition for a trophy donated by Mr. Bird during the week-end. Harriers. With the Wellington championships ever, Wellington harrier clubs will settle down to the usual weekly runs' to-day. The Brooklyn harriers will be the guests of Mr. ; and Mrs. A. Barclay at Wadestewn.,. Scottish will run from the Methodist Schoolroom, Brooklyn; Olympic at Karori, and Hutt Valley at the Hutt Park.
