LIPTON AT COWES
Shamrock Wins King’s Cup
ROYAL YACHT EXCLUDED
(Rec. August 5, 5.5 p.m.).
Official Wireless. Rugby, August 4. The race for the King’s Cup at Cowes to-day was won by Sir Thomas' Lipton’s Shamrock in 4 hours 16 minutes. It is the first time that Sir Thomas Lipton has been able to enter for this trophy. The King's cutter, Britannia, was scratched from the race by his Majesty following on the accident yesterday, when the second mate was swept overboard and drowned.
Recently Sir Thomas Lipton was elected a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, in probably the most exclusive club in the world. This entitles him to race for the King's Cup.
